North Kent Coast

“The North Kent coast is a picturesque region that offers a unique blend of natural beauty, rich history, and charming seaside towns. With its stunning cliffs, sandy beaches, and dramatic landscapes, this stretch of coastline is a haven for nature enthusiasts and beachgoers alike. From the iconic White Cliffs of Dover to the enchanting Reculver Towers, the North Kent coast is dotted with fascinating landmarks that tell the story of its ancient past. Exploring quaint fishing villages such as Whitstable and Deal allows visitors to immerse themselves in the local culture, where traditional seafood and quaint cottages transport you back in time. Whether you're admiring the panoramic views of the English Channel or indulging in fresh oysters at one of the many seafood restaurants, the North Kent coast offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.”

Yes, well, that’s what Squarespace’s new AI tool has to say about the North Kent coast. As it happened: we went down to Margate and grabbed a spot of lunch at a rather nice coffee shop near the harbour arm before perambulating to the Margate Shell Grotto, a place of underground mystery where even today there’s no idea as to who built it, why it was built, or even when. After the sub-terranean musings we walked the coastal path to Ramsgate, taking a few photographs on the way, where we found a Greek taverna overlooking the picturesque harbour where we indulged in some traditional Hellenic fare before catching the train home.

Couple of things to be said for the AI generated paragraph is that it isn’t particularly wrong and that it gave me a springboard for my own writing (which isn’t that masterful I’ll admit).

About the photographs - the two from the Shell Grotto (which contains about 4.6 million shells!) were taken with the Fujifilm 33mm f/1.4, the Depository (I just loved the architecture here) is with the 14mm f/2.8, while the coastal shots are with the 18mm f/1.4. The banner image of graffiti near to Broadstairs was taken with the 18mm. So a couple of new lenses in the arsenal there.
