Fairground

The Christmas season is upon us which, in Rochester, means three weekends of the Christmas Market in the castle grounds with the middle weekend being that of ‘Dickensian Christmas’, playing on Charles Dicken’s association with the city (although he never lived here). Part of the festive enjoyment is the funfair which is quite a bit bigger than in previous years and has got a Waltzer for which there seems to be a constant queue. The larger funfair isn’t a bad move on the organisers’ part; what with covid, high energy costs, and increasing inflation the past few years have not been overly successful financially, so something which really attracts the families in and holds them, allowing them to eat a few bratwurst, win a cuddly toy, and down a few drinks isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
