Spark!

Recently spent some time in the City of London at the resurrection of the Bartholomew Fair - a fair and trading event that started in the medieval period but died out. Today’s fair is a bit different but retains some of the elements of its predecessor, centering around clothing stalls (the original fair was a cloth fair), and street theatre. Of course the City has changed enormously over the centuries with little left of the medieval city following numerous fires, rebuilds and modernisation, so the backdrops to the modern fair are the glass and metal tower blocks of the Lloyds Building, the Gherkin, the Scalpel, the Walkie-Talkie, and the Cheesegrater.

From the photographic perspective the most riveting spectacle was Worldbeaters show ‘Spark!’, street theatre and amazing drumming. The group, who hail from England’s north-east, have performed worldwide at many prestigious events and it was great to see them here in London. With their white sequined uniforms and monochrome facepaint, and performing in the shadow of the Lloyds Building and the Scalpel, I decided to shoot in black an white with the Fujifilm X-T5 and 33mm f/1.4 lens. Photos processed in Capture One. I think it worked.
